My Instagram Post Didn't Go Live

A guide to fixing any issues with Instagram posts that did not post

There are a few reasons as to why your post didn’t send when it was supposed to. Read through this list to see if any of these fix the problem you were experiencing.

The queue to post is busy

At popular times, posts can sometimes take longer to go through. If it’s only been a short period of time (~ 1 hour) then please wait and check back a little later to see if it has been published.

You are using an unsupported aspect ratio

Images and videos can only be published on Instagram if they adhere to the size requirements specified. These are below but you can read more about this here.

Note: All Instagram video content is now posted as a reel.

Your video is too short/long

Videos must be longer than 3 seconds and shorter than 15 minutes to be uploaded. Anything outside of this range will fail to post.

You have tagged an account that is private or incorrect

Instagram will not allow posts to be shared that tag private or invalid accounts. Check your post to make sure that the caption does not include any accounts that cannot be publicly viewed or any spelling mistakes or mistypes.

Your account needs reauthorisation

We sometimes need to ask for permission to continue posting on your behalf. This happens because Instagram requires us to ask - to ensure that we are not doing so without your knowledge.

If you see a request to reconnect, you must follow the steps to do so. If you have trouble doing this, you should read our guide on reconnecting an account.

Your post triggered Instagram’s anti-spam mechanism

Whilst this might seem unfair, Instagram has very complicated mechanisms in place to stop spam from being posted on its platform. To stop people avoiding this, Instagram offers no details on why the post has failed.

Therefore we suggest trying a few quick workarounds.

  • Copy the caption and image from the failed post and create a new post that you can manually share yourself.
  • If you’re using hashtags, reduce the number you include and/or try different tags.
  • If you’re tagging users, reduce the number you include and ensure that they are public, valid accounts.
  • Remove any URLs from the caption as these do not work and are considered spam content.
  • Rename the file of the image or video you were sharing to something new like image1 and re-upload it to the post before manually sharing.

If none of these work, contact our team for help.
